João Carvalho (b. 1994, Paris) is a transmasculine filmmaker and visual artist based in Berlin. After an MA in multimedia arts in Brussels, he came to filmmaking in 2018 through his encounter with the production company and documentary collective pong Film Berlin, where he worked as AD for Philip Scheffner’s feature film EUROPE (Berlinale 2021). He has since then directed and written several short experimental documentary films such as SHOULD I ASK ABOUT YOUR MOUSTACHE (Queer Xposed Festival Berlin 2022), and the short fiction film WAIT YOUR TURN (2023). He is currently developing his first feature documentary film, in the frame of the KHM post-graduate program (Cologne). In his filmic works, in both experimental documentaries and fiction, he seeks to translate the physical experience of marginalized individuals, experiencing space and time in the in-between of social norms.
